L/O: to explore the ownership & regulation of BB1 & ITV
The Key Principles are to of the BBC
"TO INFORM,EDUCATE & ENTERTAIN"
ITV1,channel 4 and 5 are commercially funded channels but because they are
terrestrial the have to follow some PSB guide lines
ways besides ads these are some
subscriptions
pay per view
sponsorship
Product placement
In the 1960s Itv and the bbc had a duopoly over tv this
was good because it was easy to regulate and content could be better
also this means that there is less choice for the consumer which is good or bad
depending on who you are but it could also be hard to get new points of view
on tv.

The potential threats of the country influenced media heavily.

The main characters are always confident and composed showing the audience that
the 'threats to the country' aren't that threatening.

and increasing tuition fees
In cuffs i would expect there to be a lot different from the avengers.
Representation to be a lot wider and men not being the best all the time
and other people than just white people.
espionage won't be as much of a threat anymore but terrorism might be
aired October 2015,at times that family audiences would see,8 pm,

7/2/22 cuffs & Social context
PC Donna Prager:

of the 2. This breaks the patriarcal stereotype that men are stronger.
she is of a similar status to most of the cast being a police countable
like Ryan,Jake and Lino
PC Jake Vickers:
Jake isn't represented in a traditionally masculine ways.
Compared to the other officers he isn't as good in experience, decisiveness
and compared to donna isn't as strong.
He's gay but it isn't an important part of who he is,it isn't a problem unlike
other shows that might focus on it to much.
Ryan Draper:
Is represented as traditionally masculine but also having some stereotypical female traits as well.
He has power and is respected by his peers. trusted to mentor the chiefs son (masculine)
He's gentle with members of the public(e.g the drug addict) (Feminine)

Jake's character challenges the stereotype of homosexuality being a problem because no problems
in the show are caused by it.The only problems caused by jake are his inexperience and who is father is.
It also shows a growing acceptance to other sexuality's because jake mentions it and nothing else is thought of it.
In cuffs multiculturalism is show to be present and accepted in uk society having a very diverse cast.
