Create a front cover and a double page spread
article for a hobby magazine aimed at an audience
primarily of 14-18 year olds.
My project is going to be a food magazine
10/5/21 Research
L/O:To Research codes & conventions of similar products
In food magazines the articles on the cover are normally just
small bits of information about the different things in the
magazine.
The cover normally has a big picture of a food
made to look really good.
The colour scheme is normally bright and eye catching
this is the same with the text so it trys to get you to read it
Th mastheads are normally in serif or sans serif fonts
The wide majority of the magazines have only 1 picture
on the cover of a food
There is normally only one cover line and it's usually related to the cover image
things like barcodes and product numbers are normally in the bottom corner
out of the way
Some magazines choose to have the masthead be a completely different colour and font
from the smaller text to have it stand out and others
Puffs in food magazines usually tell about certain things about the
magazine like "70 recipes inside" or "102 recipes foe every occasion"
BBC Good foods magazine
House Style:This magazine a sans serif font for their mastheads and
always has bright colour scheme and to make you read specific
things they will choose a contrasting colour for some text.
The text revolves around the image
The Production value of the BBC good food magazines looks
mid ranged there's nothing fancy but it still looks high quality
The magazine is aimed at people that can cook and enjoy cooking
and are looking for more recipes to add their repertoire.
The age range would be from early 20s to 40s.
Initial Planning
Name: My Menu
Tagline: expand your recipe book
Sub-genre:cooking
Representation:creative,fun,messy
house style:it's going to look like a pin board (the pictures look like they are polaroids
and the text on post-it-notes)
Kind like these but a bit different
colour pallet:blue, yellow and pink post its with a brown pin board back round
Cover Image ideas: some kind of food
info:barcode,Product number
The DPS will have small information pieces of
the recipes inside (if it were a full magazine)
and maybe some pictures of other foods.
DPS Idea "how to spice up instant ramen"
Audience Profile
The age range of my magazine is 14-18.
There is't a specific gender it is aimed at
Its meant for people who enjoy cooking or
are ok at cooking and are looking for new
interesting things to cook.
Things like location wouldn't matter because people like
to cook in urban and rural areas although rural people may like
to cook more.
The layout will look like a pin board so it might attract people that like
to hold on to memories of things like something nice they cooked
social media wouldn't be important to them but they would probably use somethings

don't have:
cover lines
article
headline
My magazines front cover has a mast head called "my menu" at the top
next to this is the issue number.filling the main space of the cover is a picture of a
chef surrounded by the cover stories detailing what is in the magazine.
My DPS has a pictures of food and uses a wide shot of a plate of food as a background
which is done in a lot of food magazines.
The genre is clear because of things like my cover image being a chef and the cover stories
being about food.
note:
in statement of intent talk about how i am challanging the stereotype of cooking being a womans job
by having my cover chef be male
To Do list:
finish the cover stories
structure my double page spread
write an article
add the rest of my images

Great research & initial ideas
